Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune disease that appears on the skin as raised, red patches or lesions covered with a silvery-white buildup of dead skin cells (scales). The autoimmune disease causes skin cells that grow deep in your skin to rise to the surface in a matter of days instead of the normal month-long process.
This condition normally occurs in adults and can run in families. It is not contagious but can not be cured and the symptoms may cycle through periods of remission and periods of worsening. It is best to avoid irritants like direct sunlight. You may relieve irritation related to psoriasis with medicated topical ointments.
